The H.Otley Beyer Museum talk entitled ‘Wikang Biswal: Introduksyon sa Wikang Senyas ng mga Pilipino’ was held on the 28th of August, at the Anthropology Museum in Palma Hall. The talk was attended by faculty members and undergraduate students.
The speakers were assistant professor Reginaldo Cruz of the UP Department of Anthropology, Dr. Liza Martinez of the Philippine Deaf Resource Center and Ms. Rowella Tanjusay-Par of the Philippine Federation of the Deaf. The talk was about the deaf community and the Filipino Sign Language. Prof. Cruz talked about the deaf community while Dr. Martinez and Ms. Tanjusay-Par explained the current circumstances and marginalization of the Filipino Sign Language. The talk ended with an open forum where the speakers shared their insights and experience on the DEPED’s promotion of the American Sign Language or ASL.
